How to Achieve the Perfect Corpse Pose

Savasana or Corpse pose is the final resting pose in the yoga sequence. It is the pose of total relaxation that can either be the most desirable pose throughout your daily practice or one of the most challenging.

  • Rejuvenates the body

The Pose

  • Lie on your back with the palms open facing the ceiling and the toes loosely falling away from the opposite foot Keep the shoulder blades flat on the floor and expand the chest
  • Relax the muscles and let go of tension and effort
  • Empty the mind and focus on the breath keeping it relaxed and neutral
  • Transition: wiggle the fingers and toes then rotate the hands and feet slowly turn the head from left to right
  • Curl the knees into the chest and roll onto the right side of the body lay briefly in fetal position Using the hands, push yourself up into a seated position keeping the eyes closed and lifting the head last 

 

Breaths: Breath slowly and calmly for 5 to 10 minutes as the body relaxes and cools down.

Avoid

  • Back issues; if you are pregnant, do not lie on your back instead lie on your left side or elevate your spine using a block or bolster as you transition out of the pose lie in a fetal position on the left side of the body to avoid compromising blood flow to your uterus.
