How to Achieve the Perfect Headstand Pose

Shirshasana or the Headstand Pose is an excellent strength building pose that requires full engagement of the body and mind.

Benefits

  • Develops the whole body beautifully
  • Straightens the shoulders, arms, wrists, and expands the chest fully

The Pose

  • Exhale, bend forward hinging from the hips placing the palms on the floor, shoulder-width apart one foot away from the wall slightly bend the left knee
  • Inhale, swing the right leg up against the wall, quickly following with the left leg, or jump both legs up together
  • Balance both legs against the wall and bring the head back into the neck, the chin reaching forward, try to balance away from the wall
  • Keep the legs straight and the feet pointed or flexed 

Breaths: Hold for 3-5 breaths

Avoid

  • Back issues, high blood pressure, neck issues, glaucoma
