How to Achieve the Perfect Equestrian Pose

Ashwa Sanchalanasana or Equestrian Pose is part of the sun salutation sequence.

  • Massages the abdominal organs and improves their functioning 
  • Strengthens leg muscles
  • Relieves stress 
  • Balances nervous system

The Pose

  • Option 1: From forward fold, inhale and step one foot back
  • Option 2: From downward facing dog, inhale and lift one foot forward in between the palms
  • Keep the back leg straight reaching the heel upwards and back
  • Tuck the tailbone under
  • Maintain proper alignment by keeping the front knee over the ankle and toes in line with the fingertips
  • Arms straight and heart chakra lifted upwards
  • Shoulder blades move down towards the sacrum

Breaths: Aim for 1 to 5 breaths

Avoid: If you have a knee injury
